Anonymous input, question snapshots, reviewer progress, and aggregated insights stay connected.

Self, manager and peer perspectives on the same questions, side by side

Self-vs-others gap report for every question

Anonymous peer comments, shuffled, shown only after 2 completed reviews

Manager-assigned, employee-nominated, admin-assigned or random reviewers

Hold results until you are ready to release them

Most annual reviews ask one person, the manager, to describe how someone works with everyone else. The manager sees the work they are shown. They miss how that person collaborates with peers, handles handoffs and shows up when nobody is watching. Teams that try to fix this with forms and spreadsheets run into the next problem: anonymity breaks the moment someone exports a response sheet, and HR ends up chasing reviewers by hand.

FeedbackPulse is 360 feedback software that collects self, manager and peer feedback on the same questions and shows them side by side. Peer comments stay anonymous, reminders go out on their own, and you decide when results are released. Nobody has to maintain a spreadsheet of who owes whom a review.

What Is 360 Feedback Software?

360 feedback software collects feedback about one person from several angles: the person themselves, their manager and their peers. It handles reviewer selection, anonymity, reminders and reporting, then compares the perspectives so the person reviewed can see where their view matches others' and where it does not.

How a 360 Review Cycle Works

Every 360 review looks at a person from three perspectives. The person reviewed completes a self-evaluation. Their manager completes one manager review. Peers, called others in the report, complete anonymous reviews. All three answer the same question set, so the results line up question by question. Self-evaluation is a cycle setting, and it is on by default for new cycles.

Choosing Reviewers

Peer reviewers can be any colleague. How they get chosen is up to you, and you pick the nomination mode for each cycle:

  • Manager assigns: managers pick reviewers for their reports.
  • Employee nominates: people suggest who should give them feedback.
  • Admin assigns: an admin sets reviewers directly, for example for a leadership group.
  • Random: the system assigns reviewers when you want a spread you did not curate.

Audience presets (everyone, employees, managers or admins) and department or office-location filters help you scope a cycle to one team, one office or the whole company. Manager scope can be set to direct reports, the same department or the whole company, and admins can pick anyone. If you want a checklist for a company-wide rollout, the company-wide 360 review tools guide walks through reviewer assignment, anonymity rules and reminders.

Giving Peer Feedback

Peers answer the same rating and text questions as everyone else before the cycle's due date, and scheduled email reminders nudge anyone who has not finished. This is peer-to-peer feedback with structure: the same questions for every reviewer, a due date, and no guessing what to write about.

Reading the 360 Report

The report shows each question with three views: how the person rated themselves, how their manager rated them, and the average from others. The gap between self and others is the part people tend to talk about. A strength nobody else sees and a blind spot the person never noticed both show up as a gap in the same place, and that is where the conversation should start.

Peer anonymity is built into how results are shown:

  • Others' averages and comments appear only after at least two peer reviews are completed for that person.
  • Written comments from others are shuffled before display, so submission order does not identify anyone.
  • Peer reviews are anonymous, so individual responses are not tied to a reviewer's name.

Anonymity in small groups has limits. With only two or three peers, the content of a comment can still point to its author, so pick enough reviewers that no one stands out. Results can be released as soon as a review is complete, or held until you are ready, for example so managers can read reports before employees do. The report is printable for a review conversation or a file.

Controls for Running 360 Reviews at Scale

A cycle runs monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Frequency comes from that fixed list, so there is no custom interval, but everything inside the cycle is yours to shape:

  • Review period and due date: set the period being reviewed and when responses are due. Changing a deadline notifies participants.
  • Questions and competencies: write text and rating questions and group them by competency.
  • Rating scale: use label presets or your own labels for each cycle.
  • Scheduling and auto-close: schedule a cycle to start later and let it close itself at the deadline.
  • Reminders: scheduled email reminders go to reviewers who have not finished, so HR does not chase them one by one.
  • Historical snapshots: completed reviews are stored as snapshots, so later edits to your questions do not rewrite past results.

Managers see their own team's data and admins see everything, so reports reach the right people without extra setup.

360 Feedback vs Performance Reviews

They answer different questions, so FeedbackPulse keeps them as separate modules. A performance review is a manager review plus an employee self-review, each with its own questions, and it is built for evaluating results against expectations. The performance reviews solution covers that workflow in detail. 360 feedback adds peers and compares perspectives on the same questions, which makes it a better fit for development conversations about how someone works.

Many teams run both. A cycle can be scoped to performance, 360 or combined, so one review window can produce the manager evaluation and the peer view together. For a longer look at when each approach fits, read peer reviews vs manager reviews.

Why Not an Enterprise 360 Suite or a Spreadsheet?

Enterprise 360 suites often come with long implementations, consultants and a budget built for organizations with a dedicated talent function. Many teams that want peer input do not need that much machinery. At the other end, a form plus a spreadsheet is cheap, but it cannot guarantee anonymity, nobody sends the reminders, and the report is whatever someone has time to build in a pivot table.

FeedbackPulse sits between them. You get structured 360 reviews, anonymity rules enforced by the software, automatic reminders and a side-by-side report, without a services engagement. If you are comparing options, the 360 feedback tools roundup and the best 360 review software guide put the category side by side.

Who Uses 360 Feedback

  • Team leads who want input from the people their reports work with day to day, not only their own view. See the team leads solution.
  • Growing companies that have outgrown informal feedback but are not ready for an enterprise talent suite. See growing companies.
  • Mid-sized companies running cycles across departments and offices, with reviewer pools and filters that follow the org structure. See mid-sized companies.
  • HR and People teams who need a repeatable cycle with reminders, anonymity and reporting that does not depend on one person's spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

Is 360 feedback anonymous?

Peer feedback is anonymous. Others' averages and comments only appear once at least two peer reviews are completed for the same person, and written comments are shuffled before display so order does not give anyone away. Anonymity has limits in very small groups, so check how many peers each person will have before you launch.

Can employees pick their own reviewers?

Yes. You choose the nomination mode for each cycle. Managers can assign reviewers, employees can nominate their own, admins can assign them directly, or the system can assign reviewers at random. Reviewers can be any colleague, and you can narrow the pool with audience presets and department or office-location filters.

What is the difference between 360 feedback and a performance review?

A performance review is a manager review plus an employee self-review. 360 feedback adds peer perspectives and compares self, manager and others on the same questions. They are separate modules in FeedbackPulse, and many teams run both in one combined cycle.

Is 360 feedback included in the free plan?

No. 360 feedback is on Pro. You can try it free for 15 days with no credit card, and the trial includes performance reviews and recognition too. See the pricing page for current plan details.

How does peer-to-peer feedback work in a 360 review?

Each person gets feedback from colleagues you choose as reviewers. Peers answer the same questions as everyone else in the cycle, in a form they can save and finish later. Their answers are anonymous and combined into one others view, so the person reviewed sees a pattern from several peers instead of one person's opinion.
