How to Give and Receive Recognition as an Employee
As an employee, you can recognize any active colleague in your organization at any time. Click Recognition in the sidebar, choose a colleague, pick Kudos or Constructive, write your message, and submit. Recognition you receive appears on your My Recognitions page. Your manager and admins can also see recognition you receive, so write it as you would any workplace message.

Kudos or Constructive: which type to choose
Section titled “Kudos or Constructive: which type to choose”Choose Kudos to celebrate good work. Choose Constructive to share feedback that helps a colleague grow.
| Kudos | Constructive | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Celebrate great work | Help a colleague improve |
| Recipient sees it on My Recognitions | Yes | Yes |
| Recipient gets an email (if your organization has recipient emails on) | Yes | Yes |
| Can appear on the Kudos Wall | Yes, depending on your organization’s settings | Never |
| Who in management can see it | Admins, plus managers in the recipient’s reporting line | Admins and the recipient’s direct manager |
What Submit Anonymously does
Section titled “What Submit Anonymously does”When you turn on Submit Anonymously, FeedbackPulse does not record you as the sender. Your name is not shown to the recipient, their manager, or admins. Submit Anonymously is turned on by default, so turn it off if you want your colleague to know the message came from you.
| Setting | What the recipient sees |
|---|---|
| Submit Anonymously on | “A colleague” in the email, and “Anonymous” on My Recognitions |
| Submit Anonymously off | Your name in the email and on My Recognitions |
Where to find recognition you have received
Section titled “Where to find recognition you have received”Click My Recognitions in the sidebar. The page lists every recognition you have received, newest first. Each item shows:
- the type (Kudos or Constructive Feedback)
- the message
- any company values the sender tagged
- who it is from, or “Anonymous”
- how long ago it was sent
If colleagues have tagged company values, a Values you’ve been recognized for summary at the top counts how often you have been recognized for each value.
If your organization has recipient emails turned on, you also get a “You’ve been recognized!” email each time someone recognizes you. The email includes a View My Recognitions button. Admins control this setting, which is on by default.
Who else can see recognition you receive
Section titled “Who else can see recognition you receive”Recognition is not private between you and the sender. The table shows who else can see it.
| Who | What they can see |
|---|---|
| Admins | All recognition in the organization, in the Recognition Inbox |
| Your direct manager | Your Kudos and Constructive feedback, on your employee profile and while writing your performance review |
| Other managers in your reporting line (for example, your manager’s manager) | Your Kudos only |
| Everyone in your organization | Your Kudos, only if it is shown on the Kudos Wall |
Constructive feedback sent before FeedbackPulse began showing it to managers stays hidden from managers.
How the Kudos Wall works
Section titled “How the Kudos Wall works”The Kudos Wall is a shared page of Kudos that everyone in your organization can see. It appears in your sidebar only if an admin has turned it on. Constructive feedback never appears on the Kudos Wall.
| Kudos Wall mode | What appears |
|---|---|
| Named | Kudos that were not sent anonymously, with the sender’s and recipient’s names |
| Anonymous | All Kudos, with both the sender’s and the recipient’s names hidden |
If your organization requires admin approval, an admin has to approve Kudos before they appear on the wall. The recipient still sees the Kudos on My Recognitions right away.
Rules for editing and removing recognition
Section titled “Rules for editing and removing recognition”- You cannot edit recognition after you submit it.
- You cannot delete recognition you have sent.
- An admin can remove recognition. Removed recognition disappears from My Recognitions, reports, exports, and the Kudos Wall. Emails that were already sent cannot be recalled.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Can I see the recognition I have sent? No. FeedbackPulse shows you recognition you have received, but it does not give employees a list of recognition they have sent.
Does recognition affect my performance review score? No. Recognition is not scored. However, your manager can read your recognition history while writing your performance review.
Can admins find out who sent anonymous recognition? No. FeedbackPulse does not record who sent anonymous recognition, so the sender is shown as “Anonymous” to everyone, including admins.
